While Antique Heart Pine has been reclaimed from demolished buildings and recovered from rivers for many years, another resource for Heart Pine is now available. The same Southern Longleaf Heart Pine that was so prized for the first 300 years of colonization is now available as flooring again - milled from trees that are set aside when the much faster growing Southern Yellow Pine is harvested. Botanically the same as the antique species, and only slightly less dense (no longer growing in a competitive forest environment) it will once again provide years of enjoyment as it mellows to that same characteristic deep red and amber color - but, for a whole lot less money than the antique!  An oil-based finish will accelerate the warm tones and accent the grain.

Select Rift & Quarter Sawn Grade:

Available unfinished, this grade is virtually free of knots, with color variations and straight parallel grain. It is 50% dense heartwood and 100% straight grain. Select Rift & Quarter Sawn Heart Pine is perfect for duplicating the flooring of the Victorian through Bungalow eras.

Country Grade:

Available unfinished, this plain sawn grade has the naturally occurring wood character remaining such as occasional small tight knots, pitch pockets, color variations and varying grain patterns that add to it’s popular appeal. It is 75% dense heartwood and over 50% straight grain. Country Grade Heart Pine is the best choice to duplicate an historic Williamsburg floor on a budget.

Rustic Grade:

Available unfinished, this plain sawn grade has all of the naturally occurring wood character remaining such as more frequent large knots, color variations and varying grain patterns.  It is still 75% dense heartwood and 50% straight grain. Rustic Grade Heart Pine fits in any setting where the warmth of Heart Pine is preferred.
