Northern Red Oak Plank Flooring

Red Oak is the most popular flooring choice available today, and has been for decades. Red oak flooring is hard and durable with a prominent grain and a pinkish tan hue, mellowing to gold over time, Red Oak is the standard by which all other flooring options are judged. It is still used extensively for furniture and other applications, but the variety and value of Red Oak make it perfect for any design application. A water-based finish will keep your Red Oak floor brighter longer, while an oil-based finish will deepen the color slightly and enhance the grain.

Red Oak Flooring:
Select & Better Grade (NOFMA): Northern Red Oak Flooring
Available in solid or engineered planks, unfinished, or factory pre-finished with a micro bevel; this plain sawn grade of red oak flooring is virtually free of knots, with distinctly arching grain and is what most of us think of when we picture wood flooring in the last 50 years. Select grade Red Oak flooring goes with anything.

Red Oak Flooring:
Select & Better Rift Sawn (NOFMA): Northern Red Oak Flooring
Available in solid or engineered planks, unfinished, or factory pre-finished with a micro-bevel; this red oakk flooring grade is virtually free of knots, with primarily straight, parallel grain lines. There are no apparent flashes of iridescence in this grade; making it the most uniform and simple look for any formal application.  In the engineered planks, rift sawn grade is sold mixed with quarter sawn.

Red Oak Flooring:
Select & Better Quarter Sawn (NOFMA): red oak flooring

Available in solid or engineered planks, unfinished, or factory pre-finished with a micro-bevel; this grade of red oak flooring is virtually free of knots, with primarily straight, parallel grain lines. This grade will contain flashes of iridescence – some large and dramatic, giving it the most striking look for any formal application.  In the engineered planks, quarter sawn grade is sold mixed with rift sawn.

Red Oak Flooring:
Country Grade (NOFMA #1 Common): red oak flooring

Available in solid or engineered planks, unfinished, or factory pre-finished with a micro bevel; this plain sawn grade of red oak flooring has most of the naturally occurring wood character remaining such as small tight knots, distinct color variations and varying grain patterns adding to its popular appeal. This oak flooring option is an excellent value and is adaptable to a variety of design styles.  In the engineered planks, Country Grade will include some rift and quarter sawn grain.

Red Oak Flooring:
Country Grade Rift & Quarter Sawn (NOFMA #1 Common): Northern Red Oak Flooring
Available in solid planks only, unfinished, or factory pre-finished with a micro-bevel; this grade of red oak combines the character of Country Grade and the straight grain of Rift & Quarter Sawn to fit any design or budget.

Red Oak Flooring:
Rustic Grade & Better (NOFMA #2 Common & Better): red oak flooring

Available in solid planks only, unfinished, or factory pre-finished with a micro bevel; this plain sawn grade has more of the naturally occurring wood character remaining such as knots, distinct color variations and varying grain patterns than Country Grade in order to attain the longer lengths. There may be some open knots and voids that may be cut out or filled.  This option is an excellent value in red oak flooring where character and longer plank lengths are preferred.

Red Oak Flooring:
Wormy Grade (NOFMA #3 Common & Better): red oak flooring

Available in solid planks only, unfinished, or factory pre-finished with a micro bevel; this plain sawn grade has all the naturally occurring wood characteristics remaining such as knots, color and grain variations and scattered worm holes and tracks across its surface. There may be some open knots and voids that may be cut out or filled.  This red oak flooring grade is reminiscent of Antique Wormy Chestnut, although harder and much less expensive!

Red Oak Flooring:
Rustic Grade (NOFMA #3 Common & Better) Northern Red Oak Flooring

Available in solid planks only, unfinished, or factory pre-finished with a micro bevel; this plain sawn grade of red oak flooring has more of the naturally occurring wood characteristics remaining such as much larger and more frequent knots, distinct color variations and varying grain patterns than Country Grade.
