A hard, dense and lustrous wood, northern yellow (sometimes called red) Birch was used for table tops, case furniture, handrails and turnings by woodworkers since colonial times. Tan with a pink hue, possessing a faint grain and deep reddish brown striations, it is a much harder alternative to Cherry. A water-based finish keeps Birch bright and lustrous and an oil-based finish mellows the color more like Cherry.

Select & Better Grade (NOFMA):
Available unfinished, or factory pre-finished with a micro-bevel, this plain sawn grade includes the naturally occurring wood character such as minor color variations and varying grain patterns. A pink to red colored choice for flooring, this grade offers a lighter warm look with great durability.

Country Grade (NOFMA #1 Common):

Available unfinished, or factory pre-finished with a micro-bevel, plain sawn, with much of the naturally occurring wood character remaining such as small tight knots, color variations from light tan to warm reddish brown and varying grain patterns for a less formal look.
