The hardest of the Eastern domestic species, famous for its use in axe and hammer handles, this wood ranges from a light cream to a warm medium brown with occasionally deeper streaks. Hickory has enjoyed a surge in popularity in recent years as its distinctive coloration lends itself to many design styles and its durability is nearly unsurpassed. With a water based finish, Hickory retains the bright contrast in colors that makes it so appealing.
