For a more inspired, old world look, consider one of our five Custom Distressed Surface Treatments on your flooring. Each special milling process imparts its own unique, dramatic visual effect, and recreates the distinctive character and appeal of a time worn original floor. Installation follows the same procedures as our other flooring and in some cases no sanding is required prior to the application of a finish.

Wire Brush Distressed:

Just as natural weathering removes some of the softer wood grain, creating a textured and slightly furrowed surface, our brushing technique adds an aged and "weathered" visual depth to the surface of your floor. Starting at $1.50/sq’.

Hand Planed Distressed:

For unmatched hand-tooled beauty, consider the visual warmth of hand planed wood flooring. The rich textures and natural warm character of these floors is reminiscent of those seen in European and old country estate homes. All of these floors feature joints and edges slightly irregular, recreating the appearance of well used, centuries old floors. Starting at $4.80/sq’.

Circle Sawn Distressed:

Carefully created using proprietary milling techniques, this character grade flooring with a true "milled flat" surface is available in two textures for an ideal high-country or lodge look. Every plank in with this treatment has all the original saw marks intact. The texture varies between boards and all are burnished to enhance the aged appearance and slightly de-burr the saw cuts. Starting at $1.50/sq’.

Skip Sawn Distressed:

This treatment leaves only partial saw marks visible. The remaining surface area is milled smooth and all planks are burnished as well to enhance the aged appearance and slightly de-burr the saw cuts. This option may need a very light sanding to remove the faint milling marks on the still smooth surfaces that the burnishing may not have fully eliminated. Starting at $1.50/sq’.

Hand Scraped Edges and Ends:

For the most subtle enhancement to your flooring, you might consider this option. By knocking off the sharp edges and ends by hand, the look of centuries of foot traffic wearing the joints between planks is realistically achieved. The surface would still need a light sanding to remove the milling marks from the flat surfaces. Starting at $1.20/sq’.
