The prized wood of the northern colonies from the earliest years, White Pine provided masts for the royal navy and boards and beams for every conceivable use. Extremely stable and still available in wide boards, this fine grained wood is primarily a warm cream with reddish brown knots, a relatively faint grain pattern and occasional "coffee" (warm medium brown) streaking, depending on the grade. An oil finish will jump-start the mellowing process and allow it to attain its warm, “pumpkin pine” patina in a few years.
